Hi everyone,
Every year around this time, Food Bank is in need of help to fund raise. How would you like to put in a few hours packing groceries at Independent in Hawkesbury? This was done last year and a few of us helped out which raised a lot of money for Food Bank. Here are the hours and dates: Dec 18 - 24 9 am to 8 pm Call Barbara @ 613-675-4733 or email her at [email protected] Thank you for all the food donations which is always appreciated. This is another way of giving back. Thank you Food Bank Well, winter is definitely in the air. Does autumn even happen at all anymore?
I've recently been thinking about the current issues Canadians have been faced with -- issues that threaten our national security; the bullying of our children, as well as adults in the workplace. If you get like me, I start wondering about my safety in so many places. What kind of world is being created around us? Maybe you, like me, find it somewhat frightening. The people of the Bible were faced with similar situations: Moses started out leading a people to what was known as a better life--- the Promised Land---to get to that 'better world'.Throughout the Old Testament, people are constantly looking for a better way. We, as followers of Jesus, don;t need to physically move to another location, but are encouraged by his teaching, to search for a better way, a surer road, to a better life. This is the season where we, once again, become like the people Isaiah spoke about: the people that have walked in darkness, have seen a great light----that light being the light of Jesus Christ. I love this season, mostly because of this. The people of Isaiah's time, needed a new hope, another way. For the Christian, that is to seek to find the kind places, to love the work of justice, and to walk humbly with God. This time of the year points us to that light in a new way. Take the opportunity to search for the signs of the Christ light in your life. It might be through seeing it in the eyes of a child, or through some act of kindness in a new friend; it may be found through some volunteer work that you have done for years but now, can see new purpose and mission. Perhaps you need to take on a new project that will give your life some new meaning. What is it that brings you to a new and better way, beyond negativity and lack of hope. Come, join with us at this joyous time, as we once again, seek the Christ in all of our activities. May the Christ Child be first and foremost in your life! Rev. Phyllis |
